WELCOME The Honest
Weight Food Co-op welcomes you as a member and co-owner of a community
interested in being conscious of and in control of our food source. We
are a for-profit organization incorporated under the New York State
Cooperative law. Honest
Weight, along with many other cooperatives, has adopted the principles
of International Cooperative Alliance Statement of Cooperative Identity
which is derived from the Rochdale Principles. Members have equal
voting rights (one member, one vote). The nine Board of Directors are
elected by the membership for 3 year terms. The History of the Co-ops page will provide you
with a brief history of the cooperative movement. Our Nutrition Policy & Recycling page provides general information on

is located at 484 Central Avenue (between Partridge Street and Manning
Blvd.) in Albany, New York. To reach the coop from Interstate 90, take
exit 5. Go south on Everett Rd (turn right off the ramp if coming from
the west; turn left if coming from the east). When Everett ends, turn
left onto Central Ave. Continue approx. 3/4 mile, and look for signs
for the coop. Turn right into the parking lot. The coop is on the left,
behind the Family Dollar store. By
bus: CDTA has three buses that
drive up and down Central Avenue, all of which stop within a block of
the co-op. The buses are the #55, the #1, and the #2. The 55 and the 1
stop at the intersections of Partridge and Central and Manning and
Central. The 2 stops at the intersection of Ontario and Central.

please call the CDTA information line at 482-8822. Link to a map, courtesy of Mapquest HONEST WEIGHT FOOD CO-OP PURCHASES NEW SITE FOR NATURAL FOODS GROCERY Co-op purchases 100 Watervliet Avenue for Future Expansion Plans for the new site include a classroom kitchen that will
offer a variety of cooking classes from whole grains baking to gourmet
cooking; lecture space for educational seminars about food and
environmental issues; a full-service deli and bakery offering wholesome
natural traditional, vegetarian and vegan foods; locally raised meat
and poultry, expanded cheese & specialty foods, produce, grocery
and natural health and body aids. “We have been searching for a site that suits our business interests and our desire to be in a neighborhood. This site has it all, ” says Lynne Lekakis, HWFC Board president, “and we look forward to continuing success for our over 4,800 shareholders in the Capital District.” The co-op board, staff, and members will spend the next few months designing an environmentally friendly community market space that will serve the entire Capital District as the co-op has been doing since its inception in a member’s basement in 1976. The co-op prides itself on being a venue for local farmers and producers and sees great opportunity for expanding its selection of locally grown and produced foods. Our Mission Honest Weight is a member-owned and-operated consumer cooperative that is committed to providing the community with affordable, high quality natural foods and products for healthy living.
