Work Credit Incentive for New Membersby Nate Horwitz At the February Board of Directors meeting, it was decided that from that point on, any member who attends an orientation and works for the Coop within thirty days will receive work credit for attending the orientation. This was done as a way of encouraging members to sign up and start working right away; to quickly get them into the habit of working at the Coop. A preponderance of anecdotal evidence suggests that members who put off signing up for work end up never working in the store. It's hoped that this new measure will help to get people to sign up for that crucial first work shift. Passed by the Board, this idea came up as a recommendation by the Membership committee. The Membership committee has been working on ideas like this one with several goals in mind including increasing member participation and feelings of ownership, strengthening member democracy, and getting members to work in the store. If you would like to contribute to these discussions, please join us! All members are welcome at Membership committee meetings. The date for our April meeting has not yet been set at press date, but if you're interested in participating, please contact Membership committee liaison Eric Renaud at acupunctureone@hotmail.com , or member coordinator Nate Horwitz at nate@hwfc.com or 482-3312 ext.104. |
