Suggestion Box

Compiled by Michelle Calderon

Q. Why do we use non-reusable and non-recyclable containers in the deli?

A. We use these containers because they are the only option that is approved for food service. Perhaps you could find creative reuse options such as starting plants?

Q. Why are the HWFC T-shirts printed on "Fruit of the Loom"? They practice horrible social and environmental practices. Organic? Local silk-screening?

A. Those T-shirts are left over from a previous era. Our next batch will be printed locally on ecologically sustainable material. We have approached a staff member about designing our new T-shirts. Have you seen our new batch of tote bags made with recycled plastic bottles?

Q. Chocolate milk? No soy please!

A. We'll consider carrying it again. When we had it in the past, we had to throw it away because it went out of date.

Q. The Coop should offer a breakfast meal deal like the luncheon meal deal-offer a discount for coffee and a baked good.

A. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll see what we can do. (See the Early Bird Special on page 1.-ED.)

Q. Can you get fat-free milk (Meadowbrook) in the 1/2-gallon glass bottles?

A. Meadowbrook's Low Fat (blue cap in half-gallon) is as low in fat as they offer. They are unable to produce a totally fat-free milk, so by law they cannot call it "fat free."

Q. Why don't you carry individual bagels or rolls in the bakery for those who do not want (or can't eat) sweetened baked goods?

A. The upcoming reset will include space for those goods.

Q. Are we considering solar panels as part of the reset, or other environmental cooling/heating systems?

A. The engineering study that we had performed in conjunction with NYSERDA indicated the feasibility of various options. We will be implementing their recommendations where it is beneficial to us.

Q. I think I've purchased sea salt with iodine, but I don't see it today. Are we stocking it?

A. As of yet we have not carried salt with iodine. It usually has sugar added to it. We can look into having it.

Q. Bear Valley makes a cocoa pemmican bar. Can we carry it?

A. Yes we can.
