Coop library!
by Carol Reid
Remember the old Coop library? Well, me neither - but Nate claims there was one, tucked upstairs on the second floor at the old Quail Street location. That was a long time ago, and a lot of things have changed since then. We have a bigger space to create a library in, and we have more members to contribute old books and magazines. Much more is being published about natural health these days, and we're living in the Information Age. So, we decided that the time is long "overdue" for a new library at HWFC.
Noreen Prenty and
Carol Reid
, your Coop co-librarians, are creating a searchable database of the books we now have, and are currently soliciting donations. Until we run out of room to shelve or store them, we will gratefully accept any books on "coop-y" topics. And while we probably won't catalog or archive magazines (even Albany Public Library discards them after a few months), it seems a shame not to share; so we will have a free magazine bin where you can make periodical drop-offs and pick-ups, as it were. After we inventory the existing collection and put card pockets and possession stamps on all the books, we plan to make the catalog accessible to members and shoppers via the Coop's website. Particulars regarding who can borrow materials and how to track their circulation have yet to be worked out. We prefer a modified honor system. Related possible projects include creating subject bibliographies and "webliographies" of online resources - and, if this "reading thing" takes off, maybe even a discussion group we could call "Okra's Book Club" (or not). Anyway, let us know your ideas - and see you at the library!
