The
HWFC
Board of Directors met on Tuesday, March 4.
Membership
The Membership committee
presented a proposal to
create a Member Hours Emergency Fund to assist members unable to
fulfill their
work requirements due to illness or personal emergency.Other members would donate hours they
had
worked to the fund. The Board liked the
proposal and requested a few editorial changes before this is
incorporated into
the Membership Manual
Alternatives to
Plastic
Linen bags for use in the
bulk and produce
departments have arrived.A member
worker is working on a design for them using soy ink. There are two sizes and these will be
offered as an alternative
to plastic bags in these departments.
Possible Liquor
License
There had been an email
conversation among Board members concerning the possibility of selling
beer and wine. One of the staff members will be asked to get more
information on the various kinds of liquor licenses and the
requirements for each.
Spatial
Reorganization
The reorganization of space
in the current store is proceeding and we are expanding into the
current warehouse area. It was noted that it would be
advantageous to have a second meeting space and a staff break room.
Board Openings
Board elections will be
held in April and there will be several openings. To date, only
one person had indicated an interest in running for election.
Board members will try to do some more outreach on this.
Finance
It was noted that the costs
of goods continue to increase, affecting prices and sales.
However, there is also an increased desire for local products that the
Co-op carries. In addition, more people are shopping and cooking
at home since eating out has become more expensive.
Energy Task Force
At the group’s next
meeting, members will walk through the store and consider possibilities
for saving energy.
In-store Issues
The Co-op will stop using
the large carts for stocking on Saturdays and Sundays. These are
the busiest days and the carts have proven problematic with so many
shoppers in the store.
Strategic Planning
A
timeline for projected work
on and the move to the new store is posted.A mini-retreat on financial issues for
the new store will be planned.
Minutes for Membership
Meetings
The minutes from the
February Membership Meeting
were approved.There was a discussion
of how to handle minutes from membership meetings.Who reviews them and how are they
maintained? It was decided that the Board
and the
Membership committee should get the draft minutes. The Membership committee should correct
and approve them.It was suggested that
the membership
coordinator file such minutes with the meeting announcement, agenda and
related
documents, and that they be posted on the Co-op’s website.
Minutes
Minutes of all meetings are
available at the Co-op. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted
on the bulletin board. They are also available on the Co-op's website,
as password protected files. See instructions on the Board Meetings page
