News at a Glance
The HWFC Board of Directors met on Tuesday, March 3.
New Store Funding
An additional plan for raising funds for the new store was discussed. In the current program, loans begin at $1,000; the supplemental plan would allow more shareholders to participate by encouraging contributions of any amount to the Co-op's capital fund. Contributors would receive a line of credit with a small interest rate; this credit would be available at a future point. The Board liked the plan and its specifics will be reviewed by the Co-op's attorney and accountant.
Nonprofit Organization
The Co-op has been working to set up a non-profit, charitable organization-- to be legally incorporated as a 501(c) (3) organization. The Board took formal action to approve the proposed incorporators who will serve as the initial governing committee and to designate people to receive funds.
Membership
The Membership committee presented a document with recommendations on conducting membership meetings. Board members were asked to review these and provide feedback.
Committees
Committees need to submit brief summaries of their activities during 2008 for the annual report. Committees also need to submit their plans for activities during the coming year.
Staff
To address questions and stresses associated with the upcoming move, it was recommended that each department have a plan which describes potential changes. It was suggested that the staff consider having a retreat to discuss issues and concerns related to the upcoming move.
Finance
The Finance committee noted that the store continues to do well. An overview of finances for the new store was planned for the committee's March meeting and Board members were invited to attend.
Cookbook Project
A mission statement for the cookbook project is being prepared.
Positions to be Filled
The Board decided to hire a part-time administrative assistant. This position had existed previously and the job description was updated.

The Board agreed with the Collective Management Team that a new position of part-time night manager should be created to cover days when the full-time night manager is off.
Minutes
Minutes of all meetings are available at the Co-op. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted on the bulletin board. They are also available on the Co-op's website, as password protected files. See instructions on the Board Meetings page
Upcoming Meetings
Currently, the Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:45 pm (with some exceptions depending on holidays, etc.). All dates are posted on the Co-op's website. Meetings are held in the Co-op's Community Room. Anyone planning to attend a meeting should confirm date, time, and location. The next meeting is scheduled for April 7, and this is the last scheduled meeting for the current Board of Directors. After the election of several directors at the April membership meeting, the newly constituted Board will set its schedule and meeting times for the upcoming year.
