New Shopper's Assistant offers help finding items

“Who can help me find fermented daikon?”

The Shopper’s Assistant project is well under way — with four working members now available at the Coop to answer questions and help shoppers find products.

Shopper’s Assistants are aware of many products that shoppers with special diets may want to find. They keep up to date on labels that list the contents of foods, are knowledgeable about foods offered in the bulk section and are eager to answer questions, especially for those new to the Coop. While many Shopper’s Assistants have a background and interest in nutrition, it is not their intent to advise people on diets. Rather, they help shoppers find particular foods and give culinary tips, if asked.

Look for a Shopper’s Assistant on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 am to 2 pm, on Thursdays from 2 to 4 pm, and on Fridays in the late afternoon. The Shopper’s Assistant wears a yellow identification badge that says “Ask me questions!”

A special note to those needing assistance finding gluten-free foods: On the third Wednesday of every month, a knowledgeable Shopper’s Assistant will be available to help you.

Other members who would like to participate as Shopper’s Assistants may contact Louise Frazier at 489-5558 for assignment and orientation.
