Suggestion Box

Q. Could the deli start using organic (non- GMO) canola oil?

A. The canola oil we sell is non-GMO.

Q. Why can’t the cashiers have the PLU numbers instead of the customers juggling clipboards, carts, children, pencils, etc.?

A. We do not want to inconvenience the shoppers, but with our large variety of products we must ask the customer to bear the responsibility of recording PLUs so that they are charged properly.

Q. Bring back Maggie’s socks — they’re organic.

A. We would be happy to special order some for you. Please speak with a HaBA representative.

Q. Can you order/sell hemp seed nuts? One brand is “Naritoba.”

A. We’ll order some.

Q. Emerald Valley Hummus is the only brand. Please buy Emerald Valley every week!

A. We try to keep it in stock as best as we can. We’ll try harder.

Q. I strongly object to the “young turkey for sale” sign that is posted in my face as I enter the store. What is wrong with you?

A. We’re sorry to have offended you. We will relocate the sign.

Q. You guys should get the kind of milk that has cream on top (please)?

A. We have it! You can find Evans Farmhouse pasteurized (not homogenized) whole milk in the dairy cooler near the Organic Valley milks.

Q. Like to see peanut butter making machine instead of open pots that are messy.

A. Since we have limited space on the sales floor, we will look into implementing a grinding operation in the back room. We will continue to dispense bulk peanut butter for customers who prefer the current method.

Q. Bulk should be cheaper than off the shelf! Does not support re-using bottles! Grade A Organic Maple Syrup PLU 1437: 32 fluid ounces = $14.86. Adirondack off the shelf: 32 fluid ounces = $12.09.

A. Often bulk is cheaper than items off the shelf. Sometimes we simply get a better deal on large packages or sale items and we pass the savings on to the consumer. On the example of maple syrup we calculate the cost of a quart to be $10.66. This is based on the specific gravity of maple syrup being 1.37. A quart would then weigh 2.74 lbs. We suspect the tare was not taken off your jar. We will gladly refund the difference.

Q. Could we open up a branch on the University of Albany?

A. There were two previous student-run coops run by the administration. A co-op on campus will be most likely a successful venture if it is initiated from the students. You are free to start any group you wish.

Q. I would like to buy a butterkeeper — the crockery thing that stays cool by evaporation of water. Can you stock them?

A. We have not seen anything like this in any of our catalogs. May we suggest that you check the ads in Mother Earth’s News or one of the local gourmet shops?

Q. Why is the Co-op open today [10/6] — Drive Out the Bush Regime Day?

A. Are you a member? You can start a petition for next year!
