News From the Groceryby Nate Horwitz When the chips are down We've got lots of new chips at the Coop this month. We're now carrying Ghiradelli Classic White chips, Sunspire vegan carob chips (which have no added cane sugar) and Tropical Source Peanut Butter Chips. I haven't tried the first two, but I've been melting the peanut butter chips on top of my brownies lately, and they're really great! On to another kind of chip-tortilla. We're now carrying Miguel's Stowaway chips as well as Miguel's salsa. Another snack foods that we're carrying is Little Stream Bakery's Cool Hemp Energy Cookie, a wheat-free cookie made with mostly organic ingredients, fair trade sugar and chips, and hemp seeds. We've also got the locally produced Flax Snax, which come in an interesting little box with Egyptian heiro-glyphics on it. The last new snack I'll mention are Blue Diamond Almond Nut-Thins crackers, which are wheat, gluten, and sweetener free. They're made from rice and nut meal. Good things come in new packages The Gluten Free Pantry is in a new package, as is the Annie's mild macaroni and cheese, which has replaced Bernie the Rabbit with Arthur the Aardvark as its mascot. Not only is Arthur the new mascot, but the pasta is now shaped like Arthur. We've also got Simply Organic pasta and cheese-two sizes of macaroni and cheese, as well as shells and cheese. This 'n that Other new products include: Oxo Bright, a laundry whitener and brightener. We also should be getting a non-abrasive scouring powder from Heather's, whose basin, tub, and tile cleaner we already carry. We've got Seeds of Change pasta sauce in a number of interesting varieties including Santa Fe, a pasta sauce with corn. Walnut Acres has a new line of jarred soup, which includes many interesting flavors. Divina has a Kalamata Olive Spread that's gotten rave reviews, and we'll end up with a rather unusual product-the Quorn Roast , a meat-free, wheat free, and gluten-free turkey-style roast. |
