News at a Glanceby Nancy Ellegate The HWFC Board of Directors met on Wednesday, December 18. Budget Much of the meeting was devoted to discussing the budget for the coming year. Growth of 7 percent was projected. Various Board members and staff noted problems with gathering budget information for a variety of reasons. Ways of addressing immediate problems were discussed. Board members noted the need to make improvements for next year. A five-year business plan was one suggestion. Various line items of the current budget were discussed. Play Area The Interim General Manager noted plans to move the play area into the café. The current play area will be converted into the cash office. Board Business Elmer Bertsch has resigned from the Board. David Seaman will be the Board liaison to the Strategic Planning committee. Upcoming Membership Meeting A portion of the meeting was spent on preparations for the January membership meeting. Finance A question was raised as to whether all committee members may vote on issues. All members, including staff members, are allowed to vote, except when there is a conflict of interest about a particular issue. Minutes Minutes of all meetings are available at the Coop. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted on the bulletin board. Upcoming Meetings The Board has scheduled meetings for the following Wednesdays: February 26, March 26, and April 23. Meetings begin at 6:30 pm, and are held in Channing Hall of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, at 405 Washington Avenue. It is recommended that anyone planning to attend a Board meeting confirm dates and locations. |
