Here at the Coop we continue to stock new products monthly.

February highlights: The Warm and The Sweet

To add some variety to your hot cereal routine during the winter months, you might want to try Instant Oatmeal by Country Choice. USDA Certified Organic, it comes in Apples n Cinnamon and Maple flavors.

Three rather exotic types of honey are now on the shelves. Arancio and Acacia, both from Italy, are "never heated" organic honeys. From Spain comes Raw Chestnut Honey in a charming clay pot.

In cooking oils were carrying the "First Prize, Gold Medal Winner" Olio Beato extra virgin organic olive oil.

Now we also have 100% Pure Rice Bran Oil, described as a high-grade non-GMO oil "with some very unique and health-promoting characteristics." Organic extra virgin coconut oil by Nutiva "is cholesterol free and rich in medium-chain good fats’" and doubles as "a soothing body oil."

For those constantly in search of sweets that sustain rather than drain, Kiraku offers No Crash Sesame Candy. Its organic and macrobiotic and is made by a familyowned and operated business here in New York State.

Special Edition Bavarian Nutmeg Root beer by Virgils is made with water from "one of the purest sources in the world," and no less than eleven flavors including Cinnamon, Sweet Birch, Cassia Oil and, of course, Nutmeg.

Several customers have requested that we carry matzos. We now stock Streits 100% whole wheat, no salt added matzos, "baked dailyusing the finest all-kosher ingredients" with no preservatives.

New In Bulk

Goji berries (from Tibet) are an intriguing addition to the bulk aisle. Located on the top shelf next to the bulk seaweeds, goji berries are "loaded with nutrients and powerful antioxidants." They are consumed raw.

Heirloom Inca Organics unpolished organic quinoa is now available. Quinoa is a relatively quick-cooking grain thats "light, tasty, easy to digest, and glutenfree." Its also high in protein, dietary fiber and iron.

Last but not least, black sesame seeds are back in the bulk aisle.

HaBA and Cheese Newcomers

In HaBA from Natures Way are four new supplements: Chamomile Flowers, Marshmallow Root, Standardized Cinnamon and Melissa Leaves. For hair, Surya Henna Powder is a "100% natural and vegetal" hair coloring and treatment powder that includes Ayurvedic herbs. Among its other attributes, it can be used after various chemical treatments.

Cheese connoisseurs will be excited about three new imports: Prairiol French cows milk cheese with green peppercorns; Chaource, "the most renowned of all the soft-ripened, bloomy-rind cheeses of the Champagne Region"; and Boerenkaas, "real, authentic farmhouse Gouda" that hails from Holland. See our knowledgeable staff in the cheese department for exact pronunciations!

Odds and Ends

New on the shelf from Vitasoy is calcium and fiber fortified soymilk (in vanilla and original). It has fewer calories and less fat than some other brands. And, to add a little light to your winter, look for Feit Electrics 75-watt curly-Q Ecobulb, which the manufacturer claims will last up to seven years.

And finally, for you and your animal companions theres Kitty Litter Treatment and Skunk Odor Remover natural pet formulae, plus Pet Training Aid ("guaranteed to stop unwanted chewing") by Earth Friendly Products.
