Suggestion Box

Q. A list of all bulk items would help customers sooo much. It can be daunting.

A. Please talk with Bob or Leigh to brainstorm how to implement this excellent suggestion.

Q. So many of our gifts in the gift section are made in China. We should really raise the bar on this!!! Fair trade, perhaps.… Local, even better!

A. Our Nutrition and Education committee is working on a product manual. If you would like to join this committee or provide input, please talk to the front desk for contact information.

Q. Please label items that are new to the Coop on shelf near the item. Thanks.

A. This is a great suggestion. We will work towards doing this.

Q. We should advertise our “Meal Deals” better. Any ideas? A cashier thinks we should print out a little notice and hand it out. Is it something you want to push?

A. Thanks for your suggestion. We’ll look into some promotion ideas.

Q. Please paint the HWFC facade! Paint is peeling badly.

A. We are waiting for the landlord to repair the brick before we can paint.

Q. How ’bout we have a kombucha exchange? If people want “babies” they could contact someone from an exchange list of people willing to offer a culture and information.

A. You may use our bulletin boards to organize a group.

Q. Where’s the brewer’s yeast, please?

A. We have packaged brewer’s yeast in HaBA under the Spirutein. Our bulk supplier no longer offers brewer’s yeast.

Q. Put up an air lock for the front door.

A. We’re looking into an air curtain. It’s in the 2007 budget.

Q. What is the protocol for answering these “suggestions/questions” slips? How many fall outside or between department boundaries?

A. I am a member worker. I talk with the manager or managers who deal with the specific area of concern, We insure that no voice goes unheard.

Q. The Brattleboro Co-op carries aspirin. I am tired of going to CVS, but I also don’t want us to support J&J or BMS or any other big sleazy pharmacy. Can we carry or special order aspirin from a less ethically challenged company?

A. Aspirin is not a natural product and does not meet our buying standards.

Q. Get gift certificates that you just write the amount in. $25 is too small an amount.

A. In the not too distant future we will be implementing a gift card system.

Q. Locate the “milk bottle returns,” where you get the ticket for the number of bottles returned, and the place where you put the bottles closer to each other.

A. We have thought about this in the past, and it makes a lot of sense. The space issue is rearing its ugly head again, and we prefer to leave it where it is at this point in time.

Q. Is there any way we could offer a delivery service for the elderly or disabled?

A. While we would love to provide such a service, it is just not feasible at this time.

Q. There are seriously dangerous pot holes in the parking lot. We’ve got to fix them.

A. We have asked our landlord to fix them. Thanks for the reminder to remind him that it’s time for him to fulfill his responsibility.

Q. Melrose apples are great, but I hardly saw any this year. I would like them to be more available, if possible.

A. It wasn’t a very good year for Melrose apples. We do what we can.

Q. Do bananas have to be wrapped in plastic?

A. Yes, they come that way. Alas, organic or not, plastic is part of the banana industry.

Q. WiFi for the café and/or community room.

A. We would love to do this as part of an expansion or reset in the future.

Q. In a food co-op, food presentation should be top priority. Please get new oat bins. The current ones are broken.

A. Our current bins use the display space efficiently. Yes, the lids are broken, and we need to find an attractive approach to dispensing oats.

Q. The bulk foods aisle is crowded and difficult to negotiate. If the foods we now carry on opposing shelves were separated (leaving only one bulk aisle in each of two different rows) the congestion could be alleviated.

A. Thank you for this novel approach to our space issues. We prefer our current approach.
