So how did I get this job, anyway??by Louise Roback, HWFC Board President Shortly after the membership meeting in April, when Board elections were held, the new Board held its first meeting and elected officers. I was asked to serve as president and, after much thought and reflection, agreed. As many members know, the membership meeting was somewhat heated. Shortly thereafter, the General Manager submitted his resignation effective June 15, and two Board members resigned. When a third Board member resigned, leaving a Board of six, the Board, comprised of Elmer Bertsch, Ginny McEwen, Marji Knechtel, Linda Lawrence, Christian Schider, and myself decided to interview candidates to fill two positions. We have appointed Robin Cavanaugh and Lynne Lekakis to serve on the Board until the next elections are held in 2003. For the Board, as well as members and staff, there is a lot of work ahead of us in the coming year. The Board has embarked on a General Manager search, while we simultaneously consider alternative management structures. The GM position should be a great job for the right person. The Coop is filled with highly talented and dedicated member/staff persons, and it's a store chock full of great food in a terrific environment. We are hopeful that we can attract a talented person to carry the Coop forward. In the meanwhile, we are pleased that Cathy Neal, the assistant GM, will be the interim GM until the search process is concluded, which we hope will be within the next several months. It seems that every few years the Coop is faced with new decisions concerning growth, defining our vision and charting a course for the future. I hope this period of new choices will be a time of adventure and shared commitment as Coop members discuss and define our collective vision for the future and plan how to reach that goal. I urge all members to lend their constructive voices to our collective dialogue as we chart the future of our Coop, which is so important to all members.
