Tiburon, Calif.: Future Medical, 1997. 1,116 pages. $49.95 Reviewed by Pat Jenner In this book, 23 top physicians explain their treatments for reversing cancer. According to the authors, these alternative and complementary therapies are proven, safe and nontoxic. They have helped many whom conventional cancer therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation failed to help. The doctors agree that there is no single "magic bullet" for treating cancer. Many factors contribute to the development of cancer - this book lists 33 contributing causes to cancer. Thus, many modalities and substances are used by the doctors to reverse it. Nutrition, diet, the immune system and the emotional life and beliefs of the person with cancer are examined to find the areas needing change. Each of the 23 physicians contributing to this book is allotted a chapter in which, first, his or her credentials are listed. Then the doctor's plan for cancer treatment is detailed in outline form with references to another section of the book, where the treatment is explained in more detail. Following the outline is a narrative in which the physician discusses items on the outline, his successes in reversing cancer, and his philosophy. None of the physicians has the same treatment plan for cancer. Most of the outlines of treatments used contain more possible treatments than would be reasonable to use on one person at a given time. However, there is a common thread running through most of the doctors' therapies:
o Follow a good diet - sugar-free, low fat,
high fiber, no alcohol or caffeine. This book is an excellent resource for information on complementary and alternative therapies for treating cancer. It gives the reader a sense of control over his or her disease. Note: This book is on the reference shelf in the Coop's HABA department. |
