News
at a Glance is a
summary of the meetings of the HWFC Board of Directors. Tabling A
policy on tabling at the store was circulated. It will be discussed
after
directors have had a chance to read through and consider it. Bylaws The
Governance committee circulated proposed changes to the bylaws in
preparation
for the June 5th Membership Meeting where these will be considered.
There was
considerable discussion of these and the Board agreed with a number of
the
committee’s changes. One, on records that are available to Coop
members, caused
concern among some Board members since there are privacy concerns
regarding
information on Coop members. This proposed change was referred back to
the
committee for more work. There was also considerable discussion of the
bylaw setting
the size of the Governance committee. Wind
Energy The
operations and administration manager presented information on
converting the
Coop to wind energy. Some Board members felt this would be an important
way to
promote the Coop’s goals; other felt the cost was too high and that the
additional funds could be spent in ways that would have an even greater
environmental impact. The Board decided not to take action until after
further discussion
with the Collective Management Team. Physical
Plant A
new produce cooler has been installed and a new hot food case is in use
in the deli.
The landlord has made repairs to the parking lot. New
Positions An
assistant finance manager has been hired. A
new position, for an administrative assistant, has been discussed. The
Board needed
to specify who this person would report to and have now clarified that
this staff
person will report to the president and secretary of the Board. The
position will
now be posted. Conference The
current Board president will attend the Consumer Cooperative Management
Association
meeting in June. Several other Board members are considering attending
as well. Minutes Minutes
of all meeting are available at the Coop. Minutes of the most recent
meeting
are posted on the bulletin board. Upcoming
