From the Groceryby Nate Horwitz Crunch, crunch After a few months with very few new products, this month there are so many that it's hard to know where to start. One of my favorite new products is Wasabi Green Peas from Woodstock Farms . Located in the chips aisle, they certainly can be eaten as a snack, but they're more versatile than most snack foods. They can take the place of croutons in a salad, or can be mixed into a stir fry toward the end of cooking. Either way, they add a great deal of flavor. Other new snack foods this month are Ener-G's wheat-free pretzels (made mostly from corn!), Real Food's Corn Thins and several new cookies. We have four new cookies from Organica Foods: Gingered Walnut Cherry Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate Coffee Toffee, Peanut Butter Almond Chocolate Chip, and Oatmeal Coconut Cranberry Chocolate Chip . There are three new alphabet cookies from Paul Newman -Arrowroot, Chocolate, and Cinnamon Graham, as well as Country Choice Oatmeal Chocolate Chip , all of which are organic and wheat-free. Smooth stuff We also have a number of new products in the dairy case. We have puddings from Echo Farms that come in four regular flavors (Tapioca, Rice, Chocolate, and Butterscotch) as well as the flavor-of-the-month (currently Maple, but it will likely be something else by the time you read this). Also new in the dairy case are two flavors of drinkable yogurt (in glass bottles!) from Trickling Springs Creamery, and a non-dairy kefir (made from soy) from Lifeway . From sweets to nuts We've got three new varieties of honey: Kutik's Buckwheat Honey (my personal favorite-possibly the darkest and strongest-flavor honey there is); and two lighter Organic Italian honey varieties: Girasole (which I believe is Italian for "sunflower") and Rhododendron. Also new this month are several new organic bulk products from Tierra Farms: Curry Cashews, Maple Glazed Mixed Nuts, Tamari Roasted Almonds, Back Country Trail Mix, Roasted Salted Mixed Nuts, and Roasted Unsalted Almonds . Bountiful breakfasts, and more... Rounding out the new products this month are two new break-fast foods: Heart To Heart cold cereal from Kashi, and Cream of Rye from Roman Meal; three rice beverages from Yu Foods: Dark Chocolate, Green Tea, and Basmati; two frozen products: Amy's Soy Cheese Pizza and Quorn Nuggets (chicken style, made from soy); three condiments from Sushi Sonic: Mirin, Wasabi, and Tekka; as well as The Genisoy Bar, Spectrum's Omega-3 Mayonnaise with Flax Oil, and Organic Tamari from Eden. |
