A
Director's Chair:
You should be on the Board!
by
Howard Brent
This year,
several members of the Board are finishing their terms. The next
election is at
the April 22nd annual meeting. You may ask yourself, “What do I have to
offer
the Coop?” Some of the most important qualifications are common sense
and a love
of the Coop. It helps to have some financial or business experience,
but some
of our best past members had almost none when they started. How much
time will
it take?
There are
12 monthly meetings and numerous others called, due to situations that
come up
or work we could not complete at a previous meeting. Board members try
to make
every meeting. We track and report our hours to obtain credit to
qualify as a
weekly worker. We communicate by e-mail frequently and often use it to
discuss
and solve problems. This helps to speed up our process and cuts the
amount of
meetings needed to complete our work. Members are elected for a term of
three
years generally, sometimes two years. The Board usually meets at 5:30
p.m. on
the third or fourth Tuesday of each month, depending on holidays,
conflicts and
people’s schedules.
What’s in
it for you personally? This is an exciting time at the Coop — the
possibility of
a second store, enlarging the existing store and the opportunities to
our Coop community through outreach and future planning. To be part of
our
future progress and financial success can be most rewarding. We will
even post your
picture at the front door! We offer training in finance and other
subjects to
help our Board members make better decisions.
Applications
can be picked up at the Service Desk. We urge you to join us in this
exciting
journey. We need your experience and ideas. You should be on the
Board! If
you have any questions, call Howard Brent at 456-2560 or e-mail hbrent1@nycap.rr.com. You
have
more to offer than you think. Join us.
