News at a Glanceby Nancy
Ellegate Note: News at a Glance is a
summary of the
meetings of the HWFC Board of Directors. The HWFC
Board of Directors met on Tuesday, January 24. New Site The Board
agreed to extend the contract for the realtor helping the Coop look for
a new site
for another six months. Computer
Access Password
protection for members using a members-only section of the Coop’s
website is
being investigated. A system in which each member would have an
individual password
would be prohibitively expensive. An alternative would be to have all
members
have the same password and change it periodically. It was decided to
proceed
with this plan. CCMA
Conference The annual
Consumer Cooperative Management Association meeting, a national meeting
of
coops, will be held in June. Board members were asked to indicate if
they were
interested in attending. Records
Management An
evaluation of the Coop’s records management has been conducted — what
records
are kept and how they are stored. A comprehensive records management
plan will
be developed based on this report. An ad hoc committee will be formed
to work on
this. Shareholders The Board
discussed how to be more inclusive of shareholders — people who have
purchased
shares (and receive the two percent discount), but who are not
currently working
and voting members. Discount Since the
Coop’s finances are in good shape, several members have asked via the
suggestion
board about increasing the store discount for members. The Board
discussed this
briefly and reaffirmed its previous position that this issue will be
revisited
after the issue of a new store or a second store has been decided. Anniversary
Celebration Special
activities are being planned to mark the Coop’s thirtieth anniversary.
These
include a day honoring local suppliers, birthday brownies and a parade
from the
former Coop location on Education
Coordinator The Board
approved the job description for an education coordinator, a new
position that
will be added to the staff. Executive
Session The
Board
met in executive session at the end of the meeting. Minutes Minutes of
all meetings are available at the Coop. Minutes of the most recent
Board meeting
are posted on the bulletin board. Upcoming
