Low
Carbon Local:
Step Up to the Plate
Global
Warming /
Climate
Change has begun and we must act quickly to mitigate¹ it.
Peak Oil
is
another problem
that requires serious planning, now.
A
realistic solution is 80% reduction in “carbon” by 2050 (current US
Senate bill)
Which
also means:
*Re-localizing
our Hudson-Mohawk farm & food economy
“Low
Carbon Local” food systems are a very effective way to cut fossil fuel
use and
to enjoy healthier, tastier diets. (Join our Nutrition Cmte, 4th Wed.)
*Investing
in home-grown businesses
Capital
District Local First (meeting for local businesses, March 5th, 7pm)
You can
act by getting the word out:
* An
Inconvenient Truth” dvd. Sign up for our complimentary house party or
classroom
screening info packets, which include copies of “An Inconvenient Truth”
and the
new report “Changing Climate in the Northeast” (www.climatechoices.org).
*

¹Feb
’07: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): Past CO2 levels
will
cause more frequent heat waves, and stronger droughts and storms, and
will
raise the globe’s temperature by 1.1º F. Current and future CO2
levels will
“likely” bring about a total rise of 3.2ºF to 7.3ºF this
century. (The EU and
many top scientists have endorsed 3.6ºF rise as the threshold that
must be
avoided.)
