Troy Waterfront Market is open!by Amy Halloran The Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market-selected Best Farmers' Market in the Capitol Region for 2001 by Metroland-opens its third season on Saturday, May 4. At the market, you can buy the season's first local greens, free range brown eggs, meats, honey and maple products, cider, and a selection of breads and baked goods, and bedding plants, including organic vegetables and herbs. Opening day entertainment includes bagpipers Michele Lyons and Chris Smith at 9 am, and the Masque Theater's collar-making workshop to echo Troy's history in the collar manufacturing industry, from 10 am to 1 pm under the Kids' Tent. Carama will be teaching African and Caribbean dance from 10:30 am to12:30 pm. Cornell Cooperative Extension will test soil samples for gardeners of all ages. The Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market-located just north of the Green Island Bridge on River Street-is a rain-or-shine Saturday event from 9 am to 1 pm, May through November.
