News at a Glanceby Nancy Ellegate The HWFC Board of Directors met on Wednesday, March 24. Personnel The Personnel committee is working on the Collective Management Team’s evaluation. There was considerable discussion of the process that will be used. Evaluations from a group of staff and members will be compiled during April. All markers for individuals will be removed in the interest of confidentiality. The Board will assemble all the evaluations and make an evaluation of the team. Board Evaluation The Board has started its self-evaluation. It was decided to continue this process after the election of new Board members and to make this part of the new Director orientation. Store News A member has expressed interest in using the Coop’s bakery facilities after hours. Staff are checking with other coops to see what their experiences have been in this regard and also looking at liability and legal issues. They will meet with the member when they have more information. The Board agreed that staff should look into this and come back with a specific proposal. Once it is warmer, the parking spaces for people with disabilities will be revamped. Finance The Coop’s taxes have been filed and the final financial statements for 2003 were presented to the Board. The Coop’s CPA made several recommendations to the committee and members are working on implementing these. Governance The committee presented their suggestions on conducting membership meetings. April Membership Meeting Part of the meeting was spent in preparation for the upcoming membership meeting. This included work on the mailing and plans for encouraging members to nominate themselves or others to run for an opening on the Board. Minutes Minutes of all meetings are available at the Coop. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted on the bulletin board. Upcoming Meetings The Board will set its future meeting schedule after new members have been elected in April. Tentatively, a meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26. Meetings are currently held at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, Channing Hall, 405 Washington Avenue, at 6:15 pm. Anyone planning to attend a meeting should confirm dates, times and locations, especially since there may be changes after the elections. |
