Eloisa
Perez-Suarez
Eloisa
Perez-Suarez, a
member of Honest Weight for nearly ten years, died on Tuesday, April 5
after a
long illness. She was 69. Eloisa joined Honest Weight as a member in
May 1995
during the final days of the Quail Street store. Eloisa mostly
worked as a cashier,
logging hundreds of shifts and over a thousand hours. She only stopped
working
at Honest Weight in June 2004, when she became physically unable to
continue. Eloisa
also spent time on Honest Weight’s Board of Directors. She was elected
to the
Board in April 1999 and served on the Board until the summer of 2000.
During
that time, Honest Weight transitioned from having a general manager,
Bill
Zietlow, to being managed by a council of staff members. Eloisa worked
on the
Personnel committee during her time on the Board, and continued to work
with
that committee afterwards. Honest Weight was not Eloisa’s only area of
activity.
She was an elder in the Good Medicine Society, an organization that
studies
Native American spirituality. She was active in her church and worked
on an
effort to start an intentional community in this area. She was also
very active
in local Spanish organizations. She will be missed by a great many
people.
