Nutrition and health to highlight Community Harvest Dinnerby Christopher Reed Nearly four years ago, farm consultant Jerry Brunetti received confirmation that he had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Instead of undertaking intensive chemotherapy, Brunetti chose to apply the nutritional and ecological principles he had been espousing over the previous 20 years in his consulting practice. Brunetti's inspiring story of seeking a viable alternative course of therapies, will be told on Saturday evening, November 16, at the Regional Farm & Food Project's (RFFP) 9th Annual Community Harvest Dinner. This public event is open to all, and begins at 5:30 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, 160 Central Avenue (between Robin and Lexington) in Albany, just over a mile west of Honest Weight. The Harvest Dinner has become a cherished local tradition. Besides the talk by Jerry Brunetti, the dinner will feature portraits of local organic farms by photographer Teri Currie, other exhibits, music, a raffle and a silent auction. Adult admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door for RFFP members, with $2 more for non-members. Students with ID pay $6, and children under 12 are $4. One free admission is given for those bringing a dish, made with local ingredients, to serve a minimum of 15 people. Advance arrangements need to be made with food coordinator Keith Cramer (518/438-8352, or cramerkeith@msn.com ). Also, call to help with set-up or clean-up, or to showcase your chef skills by cooking in advance using great foods donated by area farms and businesses. At 1 pm, an afternoon forum will explore the relationship of agriculture to individual and community health. Jerry Brunetti will be joined by Vermont farmer Doug Flack and Albany-based land use planner Todd Fabozzi. The many connections between personal health and the health of the larger community through the example of sustainable farming will be explored from three perspectives. Forum admission is $10 in advance or $12 at the door (RFFP members), with $2 more for non-members. For further information or to volunteer, contact the Regional Farm & Food Project at (518) 427-6537 or farmfood@capital.net .
