From the Grocery

Special for the holidays

With the holidays nearly upon us, we’re laying in some supplies for the festivities. Look out for scrumptious vegan fruit pies by Wholly Healthy. And if you prefer to bake your own, we’ll be carrying their pie crusts as well (graham and chocolate). Tofurky Feast is no stranger here, but it’s "new and improved" for the season (which might or might not refer to the Wishstixs now included, because vegans have wishes too, after all). And we’ve got a wealth of stuffing: Chatham Village stuffing (Traditional Herb or Cranberry and Herb) and organic, vegan stuffing from Elizabeth’s. The stuffing is only around for the holidays, so if you’re a particular stuffing fan you might want to come by right after the New Year to clean up on it before it goes away again.

Everything old is new again

Not exactly new, but past due for a moment in the spotlight, is Mistra Estates Extra Virgin Olive Oil by Mistra Estates Ladopoulos. Pressed from olives grown not far outside of Sparta, it is the real stuff. Also undermentioned are Think Thin low-carb snack bars, in Chocolate Fudge, Peanut Butter and Brownie Crunch. We’ve added Pecan Brownie to our Boulder Brownie collection. Licorice bars by Panda are now available in a pack of four, and plain sheep’s-milk yogurt by Old Chatham is now available in formidable 16-oz. tubs. And making their triumphant return, after a long and lamented absence, are Quilt Crackers by Good Health. Many of you have asked about them, and now you’ve got them back.

And some new things are just new

Suddenly there’s organic, vegan powdered sugar everywhere you look. We now carry powdered sugar from Wholesome Foods, makers of Sucanat. To our collection of teas from my personal favorite, Choice Organics, we’ve added gourmet Jasmine Green Tea and Celtic Breakfast—both organic, both fairly traded. (Just brewed myself a cup of Celtic Breakfast as I’m writing this—very dark, like Irish Breakfast, and quite tasty.) You may have seen The Switch sparkling juices lately, in Black Cherry and Orange Tangerine—juice, carbonation, nothing else. Our Tazo lineup now includes Plum Delicious Juiced Tea. Annie’s Red Wine & Olive Oil Vinaigrette is new, in a new 16-oz. size. And the newest snack from Ryvita, Fruit Crunch, has been well received.

It’s not all snacks

From Seeds of Change we have great new organic frozen entrées: Four Bean Chili, Mushroom Wild Pilaf, and Spicy Peanut Noodles. Also in that vein, Fairfield Farm Kitchens’ Moosewood Frozen Pasta Entrées are all organic—and of course, they feature sauces right from the legendary Moosewood Restaurant itself.
