News at a Glanceby Nancy Ellgate Note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the minutes of the August Board meeting are not available. The HWFC Board of Directors met again on Wednesday, September 24. Meeting Time The Board discussed starting its meetings earlier. It was decided that the Board would try to start the October 22nd meeting at 6:15 p.m. Strategic Planning The Board discussed the recent strategic planning retreat. Members felt the experience had been very successful in terms of building relationships, learning to listen to others, and working on group process. In terms of dealing with specific issues, the retreat was less successful, although this may have been because there just wasn’t enough time. Finance The draft budget is being prepared. Not all proposed committee budgets are in, but those that are in have requested more money. There was discussion of guidelines for increases. It was suggested that the Board keep increases in line with past annual increases for various committees. Special Events Publicity for special events was discussed. Collective Management Team Safety issues in the front-end section of the Coop were discussed. Personnel It is time to set up a procedure to evaluate the Collective Management Team process. The committee will provide recommendations to the Board on this. Governance It was noted that the by-laws are now available in pamphlet form. Executive Session The Board met in executive session at the end of the meeting. Minutes Minutes of all Board meetings are available at the Coop. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted on the bulletin board. Upcoming Meetings Board meetings are scheduled for Wednesdays, November 19 and December 17. As noted above, the Board is trying out a 6:15 p.m. start time. Meetings are held at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, Channing Hall, 405 Washington Avenue. However, dates, start times, and locations can change, so it is recommended that anyone planning to attend a meeting confirm these particulars. |
