| In honor of Co-op Month,
Honest Weight would like to bring your attention to one of our
long-standing providers of nut butters and honey. Founded in 1976 by
Jeremy Thaler and Connie Potter, Once Again Nut Butter is now a worker
cooperative — that is, the company is owned entirely by its employees.
It is one of the largest employers in the village of Nunda, south of
Rochester, where they process nuts and honey in a refurbished
turn-of-the-century silk factory.
Once Again Nut Butter was started as a
manufacturer of healthy peanut butter. In 1989 they became the first
processor to produce organic Valencia peanut butter in the United
States, and they subsidized the organic peanut crop for its first five
years. Today, Once Again also offers almond butter, cashew butter,
sunflower butter and sesame tahini. Many Co-op members take home
samples of their goods from our bulk department, where their crunchy
and smooth nut butters are available in bulk for shoppers to dip out
into containers. Honest Weight also carries various forms (crunchy,
smooth, roasted, raw, etc.) of Once Again Nut Butters in small jars. In
addition to nut butters, Honest Weight offers Dawes Hill Honey, which
is packaged by Once Again. In addition to nut butters and various types
of honey, Once Again sells nuts roasted dry or in oil.
Many Co-op members have purchased Once
Again’s peanut butter. It has the flavor and fragrance of freshly
roasted peanuts and a lovely crunch (in the crunchy style). It is
wonderful on the classic PB&J sandwich. Its superior quality is
present because the nuts are roasted in small batches before
pulverizing.
If you haven’t already, you should celebrate Co-op Month by trying some
of the Once Again Nut Butter products, and appreciate their purity and
taste.
