WANTED: Your Best
Recipes
|
HWFC is cooking up a member
cookbook!

If you shop at the Honest
Weight Food Co-op, I’m willing to bet that you pay more attention to
what is on your plate than most people. Co-op shoppers seem to have a
greater awareness of the food they eat — and appreciate healthy, whole,
fresh and organic foods. Unfortunately, if you are like me, you
sometimes don’t know what to do with some of those “strange and exotic”
things poking out between the beets and the broccoli in the produce
bin. But I’m also willing to wager that, like me, you have a drawer
full of great recipes for some of the other strange and exotic things
peeking out between the carrots and the coconuts!
As a member worker cashier, I have had customers ask me how to use or
cook certain foods. While many foods are quite familiar to me, such as
quinoa, there are also foods that I have never tasted or prepared, like
fresh chestnuts. Well, we can help each other out by sharing recipes,
and what better way to do that than by collecting some of those recipes
into a cookbook. That is one of the reasons that I suggested this
project -— to compile and publish a collection of recipes for and by
the Honest Weight Food Co-op.
We hope that many Co-op customers and members will contribute favorite
recipes for a new HWFC cookbook. If you have a favorite recipe (or two
or three), please send it to us for possible use in the cookbook. Your
recipes should be made primarily with foods found at the Co-op. Along
with the recipes, we would like to include serving suggestions, and
maybe some information about the featured ingredients. If your recipe
has a specific dietary “theme” (for example: gluten free, raw foods,
vegan), please include that information as well.
Be sure to include your name, email address, phone number and, if
you’re a shareholder, your membership number. Please email your
suggestions to: HWFC.cookbook@gmail.com.
Send us as many recipe suggestions as you like — the more the merrier!
Recipes to be included in the book will be chosen by the committee. And
remember, variety is the spice of life! Use your creativity and your
expertise to help us come up with a great cookbook that will represent
our Co-op well, as we expand our horizons.
We’re looking forward to hearing from you soon. November 15 is the
cut-off date for recipe submissions, so rack your brains and send us
your best recipes today!
