The
HWFC Board of Directors met on Tuesday, September 2.
|
Membership Meetings
|
The agendas for membership
meetings to be held in October were discussed. The October 5th meeting
will deal with proposed bylaws changes, election of new Governance
Review Council members (assuming there are candidates), and review of
the Food and Product Manual if it has been completed. The October 19th
meeting will concern plans for the new store. The architects and
construction manager will be at the meeting and members will vote on
the plans presented. The Board will review the plans prior to the
meeting.
|
| Meetings of Co-op Entities |
It was clarified that
meetings of the Board of Directors and the Governance Review Council
are open to all Co-op members. Meetings of the staff and the Collective
Management Team (CMT) are not open.
|
Supporting Troy Co-op
|
Possible financial support
for the co-op that will be starting up in Troy was discussed, but a
formal proposal from the group has not been received, so no decision is
needed at this time.
|
Collective Management Team
|
The CMT’s report noted that
sales were up over last year at this time and that the membership drive
has been very successful. The reorganization of the current store space
should be completed by the end of September.
|
| Fiscal Year |
The Finance committee has
recommended that the Co-op change the start of its fiscal year from
January to July, which would make planning easier. It was suggested
that, for 2009, we could have a six-month budget for January–June and
then begin a new yearly cycle. The Board planned to look at this issue
at the retreat to be held a few days after the Board meeting.
|
| Nutrition and Education |
| The committee has been
working on a school lunch conference that it hopes to hold in October.
The Board had some concerns about financial liability for the project
and asked that several items be addressed. If this cannot happen within
the current timeframe, the committee will want to look at a later date
for the conference. Board members were invited to meet with the
Nutrition Education committee to go over the concerns. |
| Membership |
| It was noted that there
will be a small charge for this year’s membership dinner. There is also
a plan for a silent auction at this event to help cover costs. |
| Personnel |
The Board liaison to this
committee had requested input on needed projects for this group.
Suggestions included staff development related to the new store and
work on the living wage issue. Research done previously on the living
wage issue will be shared with the committee.
|
| Board Retreat |
The Board retreat to be
held on September 7 was discussed. The agenda included a basic
introduction to financial matters and discussions on decision making
and committee work.
|
Heating Oil Program
|
It was previously suggested
that the Co-op might want to consider coordinating purchase of home
heating oil. It was decided to revisit this idea after the new store
has opened.
|
| Minutes |
| Minutes of all meetings are
available at the Co-op. Minutes of the most recent meeting are posted
on the bulletin board. They are also available on the Co-op's website,
as password protected files. See instructions on the Board Meetings page. |
| Upcoming Meetings |
The Board meets on the
first Tuesday of each month at 5:45 pm (with some exceptions depending
on holidays, etc.). Upcoming meetings are scheduled for October 7,
November 4 and December 2. All dates are posted on the Co-op's website.
Meetings are held in the Co-op's Community Room. Anyone planning to
attend a meeting should confirm date, time and location.
