Private Label
Supplements Come to Honest Weight
|
Several months ago, we
began carrying our own brand of nutrition supplements. We’ve been asked
many questions regarding the safety and quality of our product line
since then. Because of that, we decided that it would be appropriate to
provide some information on why we chose to carry our own line, and
about the company we chose to supply out private label.
We believe that our house brand is comparable to, if not better than
many nationally known brands for these reasons:
1. We use European-sourced herbs. In Europe, herbs
are regulated as drugs and as such, fall under the same regulatory and
quality control guidelines as over-the-counter drugs. Because of this,
you are assured that the product complies with safety, purity, and
potency regulations as well as making sure that the correct species is
used. (For example, there are several species of bilberry but only one
has therapeutic relevance as a supplement). These same standards do not
apply to Chinese-sourced herbs.
2. There are over 55 patented and trademarked
ingredients used in the formulas that go into our private line. Before
any manufacturer will spend the money to patent an ingredient, they
want to make sure that it has some unique qualities that sets it apart
from generic products (for example, Ester C® has better absorption
than ascorbic acid). So, just as European-standardized herbs are
superior quality, so, too, are patented and trademarked ingredients.
3. We have full disclosure of all ingredients in our
formulas. If there is ever a question regarding the source of a raw
material, we can provide you with the country of origin as well as the
manufacturer. Most manufacturers regard this as "proprietary
information" and do not divulge their sources.
4. All finished products are sent to an independent
laboratory to test for potency to ensure that they meets label claim
(label claim means that the contents of the tablet or supplement is not
less than the amount stated on the label).
5. Our basic nutrients, like vitamins C, E, A, and D,
are pharmaceutical grade. They are the purified form of any nutrient
and therefore free of any contaminants. They are the highest potency
available and backed by scientific research.
The company we chose to do our private label, Reliance Vitamins, is
also relatively local, based in Somerset, New Jersey. We felt that this
was important because of the impact that emissions from interstate
commerce are having on our environment. Reliance is also a
well-established company with over 25 years of supplement manufacturing
experience in an FDA-inspected facility which meets all GMP (good
manufacturing practices) requirements for manufacturing.
There's an old adage in the supplement industry that states: "the most
expensive supplement you can buy is one that doesn’t work." That’s why
we chose Reliance as our house brand. We want to give our members piece
of mind that we did our research and are providing you with a house
brand that’s unsurpassed for quality and safety, and yet is still
available to you at a reasonable price.
