Albany Skill Share on Sept. 17

by Emily Collins

In an effort to build community, increase food security and develop sustainable techniques for acquiring food, clothes and shelter, the Albany Skill Share Association will be hosting its first annual skill share on September 17. The skill share will be an all-day event taking place in and around the Albany Free School (8 Elm St.). Classes including spinning wool, converting your car to run on veggie oil, seed saving and making salves and tinctures will be offered. In our country’s time of increasing reliance on foreign oil and the wars that demand creates, genetically engineered foods and global warming, our focus must turn to low-energy sustainable practices and decentralized self-sufficiency. The skill share seeks to build upon and share our assets, skills and ideas in order to strengthen our community ties and leave a smaller ecological footprint.

Child care will be provided throughout the day at no additional cost. There will also be a free lunch and a bike-in movie (title TBA) at dusk. Cost for the event is $3–$10 sliding scale. For a complete list of classes and for more information, please go to www.albanyskillshare.org or call 434-8010.
