Q. We should give 5 cents
credit for people bringing their own coffee mugs.
A. Great idea. If we do it for bags, we should encourage reusable mugs.
We’ll look into it.
Q. We need more orientations scheduled. The Saturday & Monday are
getting so crowded. Also, it’s very limiting to several people.
A. We are working on getting another person.
Q. Why do we sell Micha or Angelo’s meat & chicken frozen foods or
humanly raised? Just by-products of animals. Second time I’ve asked.
A. It has been removed.
Q. I visited a co-op recently that had a spot in their milk isle for
clean, used containers that their members bring in. It was very handy
if someone forgot to bring containers, or stopped by the co-op on a
whim. Any chance we could do this?
A. We think that is a great idea as well. It reminds us of what we used
to do until the NY Health Department put a stop to it.
Q. Please remind workers to put in 4 hours/week if there is another
adult in their household eating co-op food purchased with their
discount.
A. We have relied on the honor system to ensure that members work
enough to earn the appropriate discount. Perhaps your suggestion will
spur some people to adjust their requirements. We hope people will care
about their Co-op and act responsibly.
Q. When there’s so much local/organic at regional farm markets (Troy),
it’s hard to believe you don’t offer more. Why?
A. We continuously look for local/organic produce and will have more
available as the growing season progresses. We have found that many
local/organic farmers will not sell to us and will reserve their crops
for their own retail sales (e.g. farmers’ markets).
Q. When we move to a bigger store we should get motorized carts for
disabled persons.
A. Yes we will!
Q. Please could we get the sales flyer on the day the sales begin?
A. Although we publish the sales to our website at the beginning of the
month in an incomplete form, we face constraints that prevent us from
printing the flyer earlier than our current timetable.
Q. Why are we selling peanut butter with added sugar and palm oil? This
seems against our standards. I wouldn’t think to even look for that!
A. People have asked for that brand. We carry it to provide options and
it contains ingredients that we are allowed to sell.
Q. Do you still carry the Full o’ Fruit Pops? They are delicious…
especially the coconut.
A. We will no longer be carrying Full o’ Fruit Pops. We dropped them
some time ago because they contain fructose.
Q. If we’re looking to save money, how about turning down the
airconditioning? It’s freezing in here most of the time.
A. We must keep the store cool so we do not overwork the refrigeration
units. We keep the thermostat set at 72 degrees, which is actually warm
for a food store.
Q. It would be helpful if per/unit prices were included on signs for
“on sale” items (as well as all other signs).
A. Most of our signs come from the Grocer’s Association. We will make a
request to the NCGA to include unit prices.
Q. There are too many t-shirts that are offensive to meat & dairy
eaters. Workers should not be showing their vegan opinions all the time.
A. We walk a fine line between respecting free speech and avoiding
offending out customers. This will be a topic at our next all-staff
meeting.
Q. Please make raisins for sale not in plastic bags that leach poisons
into the food.
A. When the reset happens, we will try to offer at least one variety in
a bin.
Q. The Co-op should try to put more kid’s books & craft books on
the free table.
A. We do get them from time to time and they go quickly. Anybody is
free to bring items in for exchange. Maybe someone will read this and
bring in some kid’s crafts books.
