A note from
3tarchitects
|
We at 3tarchitects were
honored and excited when we were selected to design Honest Weight's new
store back in 2007.
Via steadfast pursuit, the design for a new store emerged. It was
tooled, refined, and then brought up for a vote by the membership in
January of 2009. It passed overwhelmingly. This historic event for
Honest Weight paralleled another historic event at the national level,
the cataclysmic collapse of America's financial system and subsequent
dearth of available money. A direct by-product of the collapse was the
weakening of the federal New Markets Tax Credit Program, which seemed
so logical a match given its name. In fact, it just petered out. Under
these circumstances, the Co-op began a plan for a reduced budget
building. We at 3t, like most of you, were deeply disappointed that the
store design had to be relegated to the sidelines. When 3t was asked to
consider re-designing the store with a reduced budget, we decided that
we couldn't and shouldn't. We had put our all into the original design
and it was recognized that new blood was needed.
It is unfortunate that we won't be with you at the end as we had hoped,
but all good things must come to an end. We at 3t wish you at the Co-op
only the best in the completion of your new home. I'm sure we will be
seeing you in the aisles or at the checkout in the near future. From us
at 3t to all of you at the Co-op; good luck!
Sincerely, Scott Townsend, AIA LEED AP Principal, 3tarchitects
