Honest Weight Food Cooperative, Inc.
is located in the heart of Albany,
NY. A consumer cooperative since
1976, it boasts a staff of 80 and a
strong participatory owner base of
over 7000. In 2011, sales are
projected to exceed $13.4 million.
Honest Weight is in the process of
preparing to move to a new,
state-of-the-art location
approximately ¾ of a mile
from its current location. The plans
are for 18,000 sq ft of retail with
substantial growth in prepared
foods, and completion, if continuing
on the current funding path, will be
late August 2012.
The working owners are the true
decision makers of the organization,
and the elected Board of Directors
strives to represent and engage them
in decisions when practical. The
Board’s role is to provide oversight
of the store and the balance of the
organizational activities and to
appoint and supervise the general
management of the co-operative.
Honest
Weight Food Co-op is
transitioning to
a Leadership Team
consisting of three people
who will be jointly
accountable for
general management of
the co-op.
Honest Weight is currently hiring
for two of the three leadership
positions, the Marketing
and Sales Leader, and the Organizational Leader. The Finance
Leader has already been
selected. Successful candidates will
work closely with the Board and the
owner base to develop policy and
also work autonomously as a
team to oversee store operations.
